“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? For after all these things do the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:31,33 KJV).
It is a natural desire for humans to ensure they have all the basic necessities to live a comfortable life on earth. They get an education, get employment, and work anywhere from work 30 to 50 hours to earn a paycheck which buys food, clothes, shelter and miscellaneous things. The Bible further validates man’s efforts saying if a man doesn’t work he doesn’t eat. However, God never intended that man quest to meet his practical needs becomes a priority above needing God. He doesn’t want us to worry about whether or not we have all of OUR needs met first in order to live a happy and fulfilling earthly life! Before there was vegetation for crops, cotton and silk for clothing, or wood, brick, and mortar for shelter, there was GOD. Jesus teaches us in this parable to seek God first. Make Him our priority above all else. Find out what “Kingdom” living is all about. It includes being in right standing with God. Once that becomes our first priority, then God will make sure all of our practical and earthly needs are easily met. It’s not up to us to figure “how” He will do that, let’s just believe that He will.
